Role and Responsibilities:

Live Payments is seeking a talented and experienced Database Engineer to join our growing/ multi-national team. Reporting directly to our Vietnam-based Team Leader, the Database Engineer will work closely with the development team to design and implement database solutions and address stakeholders' business requirements.

Core Responsibilities:

• Design database schema tables, stored procedures, views, functions, triggers, and indices to meet the application performance requirement.
• Design, develop and maintain ETL solutions for the data warehouse.
• Leverage agentic AI tools to accelerate database design, query development, performance analysis, and incident troubleshooting
• Automate repetitive database tasks (reporting, monitoring, data extraction) using AI agents where appropriate
• Design, develop and maintain business reports for other departments.
• Design and write queries to extract data for ad hoc requests from other departments.
• Review code and advise and guide developers on best practices for database queries and procedures.
• Carry out capacity planning and cost optimisation.
• Write and maintain database design documents.
• Troubleshoot and provide root cause analysis of major incidents and problems.
• Internal team training on anything database-related.
• Prepare database deployment scripts and assist with production deployment.

Qualifications and experience

• Strong knowledge of database architecture, data modelling, schema design, database analysis and design.
• Strong experience in database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience using agentic AI development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor Agent, GitHub Copilot) in daily database workflows.
• Ability to leverage AI agents for complex query generation, schema analysis, performance tuning, and database development beyond simple chat-based AI interactions.
• Good experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL).
• Hands-on experience with AWS data platform services (e.g., Amazon RDS, Aurora, S3, Glue, DMS, Athena, Redshift, Lambda, Kinesis, and CloudWatch), with a solid understanding of ETL/ELT, data integration, and modern data lake/data warehouse architectures.
• Good experience with reporting tools such as Microsoft Reporting Services (SSRS) and Crystal Reports.
• Good English communication skills (written and verbal).

• Experience working on a commercial project to build a data warehouse.
• Experience in Data Analysis is an advantage.
• Experience working in the payments and/or financial services industries is advantageous.
