Mount MaunganuiFull TimePosted Jul 24, 2026

Bay Venues …. Haven’t heard of us? Not to worry; I bet you have heard of some of the venues we own or operate – Baywave, ClubFit, or Mercury Baypark to name a few. As the kaitiaki of over 25 facilities in Tauranga Moana, we proudly offer a range of activities and experiences intended to put a smile on the dial of our community.

Here at Bay Venues, we are all about ensuring we create memorable moments - and we do so intentionally through connection and fun with each other and our community. Our values of Manaakitanga (Service), Whakawhanaungatanga (Relationships), Kaitiakitanga (Caring) and He Toi Tangata (Excellence) are lived on the daily as we strive to enhance the wellbeing of the people we serve. It’s no small feat, but we know that when we facilitate connections and collaborate with others, great things will happen!

About the Role:

Bay Venues is entering the next phase of its health, safety and security journey, focused on embedding strong foundations, strengthening systems, and continuing to build organisational capability. We are seeking a senior leader to continue guiding this work and provide clear direction across a diverse facility network.

As Head of Health Safety & Security, you will provide strategic leadership, governance and assurance across Bay Venues’ health, safety, wellbeing and physical security functions. Reporting to the General Manager People & Engagement, you will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team and senior leaders to ensure health, safety and security enable exceptional experiences for our community.

You will lead an established small but mighty team of specialists responsible for operational delivery, while you focus on setting direction, strengthening systems, and ensuring consistent, organisation-wide approaches to health, safety and security. This role is pivotal in continuing the embedding of people-centred health and safety practices and supporting the ongoing development of security capability across governance, people, process and technology.

This full-time role is based in Tauranga and works across Bay Venues’ network of more than 25 community, leisure and event facilities across Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic leadership and governance for health, safety and security across the organisation
  • Owning and overseeing organisational health, safety and security systems, including assurance and reporting frameworks
  • Leading and developing a specialist team to support consistent, high-quality operational delivery
  • Providing oversight of organisational risk, incident management and emergency management arrangements
  • Partnering with senior leaders, Council and external stakeholders to strengthen capability, compliance and resilience

About You:

Here’s what will ensure your success:

  • A tertiary health and safety qualification (Diploma or above), with auditing training and experience.
  • Significant experience in health and safety roles, including senior leadership experience in multi-site operations.
  • Experience leading organisational change or embedding new systems and frameworks.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act and associated regulations.
  • Proven experience leading, coaching and developing teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working with senior leaders and external partners.
  • Full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence.

It would be great if you also had:

  • Experience with organisational security risk and assurance processes.
  • Professional accreditation with NZISM (Professional or above), or equivalent.
  • Experience using ecoPortal or a similar health and safety software

We have put together a bunch of perks to support our culture of connection and fun.  Ones that reinforce that we are part of the awesome leisure and events industry, and all the magic that comes along with that. Our benefits include:

  • a gym membership to our ClubFit Gyms,
  • access to all of our aquatic facilities,
  • subsidised speedway passes and generous discounts on our programmes, services and merchandise,
  • heavily subsidised coffee at our on-site cafes,
  • access to a range of development opportunities through our Learning & Development programme

So why not join us? We have the right purpose to fuel meaningful careers, the right attitude to support work life balance, and the right leadership to foster an amazing culture.  No matter your age and stage you may be, we are an inclusive bunch all driven by our purpose of Spaces to Belong | Experiences to Connect.
