Senior Accountant

A key financial leadership role within a growing Texas litigation firm — own the numbers, support the firm’s mission, and help build something that lasts.

 

Position:  Full-time

Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Location:  Houston, TX (Hybrid – 2 days/week remote after training)

Reports To:  Director of Finance

Experience:  3–7 years, law firm or professional services preferred

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Cromeens Law Firm is a growing Texas litigation practice with a performance-driven culture and a strong commitment to both client outcomes and team development. As Senior Accountant, you will serve as the financial backbone of the firm — responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and health of its financial operations.

 

This is a high-trust, high-visibility role. You will work directly with firm leadership, oversee billing and trust accounting compliance, and provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate brings law firm or professional services experience, is deeply organized, and can operate with a high degree of independence while keeping leadership informed.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

General Accounting & Month-End Close

     Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

     Manage all day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance

     Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and allocation (shared expenses, overhead, etc.) transactions

     Oversee attorney billing operations in coordination with legal staff, including review of prebills, billing adjustments, and invoice generation in Clio

     Administer and reconcile IOLTA and client trust accounts in full compliance with Texas State Bar requirements

     Process semi-monthly payroll accurately and on schedule; maintain related records and filings

     Prepare monthly cash, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations

Financial Reporting & Analysis

     Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for firm leadership

     Develop and monitor firm budgets and forecasts; track performance against financial targets and explain monthly variances

     Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve financial performance

     Assist in developing KPIs relevant to a law firm environment (utilization, realization, etc.)

     Track and report on collections performance in coordination with the Collections team

     Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support firm operations, growth initiatives, and scalability

Audit & Compliance

     Maintain and improve internal accounting controls, policies, and procedures

     Optimize workflows and improve accounting processes within QuickBooks Online

     Assist with external CPA firm coordination and tax preparation

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

     Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required

     3–7 years of progressive accounting experience; law firm or professional services background highly valued

     Hands-on experience with legal billing software; proficiency with Clio is a significant advantage

     Working knowledge of IOLTA trust accounting rules and Texas State Bar compliance requirements

     Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)

     Experience with QuickBooks Online or comparable accounting platforms

     Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

     Excellent time management abilities; capable of managing multiple deadlines simultaneously

     Professional communication skills and the ability to translate financial data for non-financial stakeholders

     High degree of discretion and integrity in handling confidential financial information

     Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while proactively keeping leadership informed

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

     Prolonged periods of desk-based work on a computer

     Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds may be required
