Maintenance Technician (CVB): Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Facilities Director, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general housekeeping, maintenance and event needs of the South Padre Island Convention Centre.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for completing required work within a specified time period as assigned.
- Responsible for maintaining a good working relationship with co-workers, customers and guests.
- Responsible for facilitating vendors with tables, proper lighting and other needs as assigned.
- Performs cleaning of floors to include: sweeping, mopping, waxing and buffing.
- Performs set-up, break-down, and changeover of furniture, staging and other equipment in the facility for a wide variety of events.
- Responsible for operating lifts, and transporting equipment and supplies as necessary.
- Maintains records of inventories and supplies.
- Responsible for working a flexible schedule when required to include nights, evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Maintain good communication with H-VAC representatives as required.
- Maintain and create records and inventory of maintenance regarding the H-VAC system.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
- Understand the requirements of decontamination when flipping the facility for new groups.
- Responsible for connecting phone and electrical lines for vendors when requested.
- Set-up basketball court, stadium bleachers and volleyball floor when required.
- Responsible for checking and running fire pump every month to ensure it is working properly.
- Responsible for operating a forklift to load and unload materials as needed.
- Responsible for using a high and scissor lifts to hang banners and perform maintenance.
- Responsible for performing shipping and receiving duties.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS
- Attend training/safety meetings as assigned.
- Perform sprinkler system and electrical system repairs as assigned.
- Perform plumbing and painting.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
FISCAL BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY
- Responsible for adhering to all City of South Padre Island Purchasing Policies while performing purchasing tasks.
- Responsible for ordering treatment chemicals for the cooling tower, belts needed for the A/C units, butane gas, chemicals and janitorial supplies as needed or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with coursework in HVAC or electrical systems.
Experience:
- One (1) years of related work experience in increasing responsible maintenance work or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, equivalency to be determined by the City.
Licenses or Certifications:
- A valid state driver’s license.
Special Requirements:
- Bilingual: Spanish and English preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of a wide variety of cleaning materials, methods, equipment and procedures.
- Knowledge of facility maintenance and custodial responsibilities.
- Ability to receive and carry-out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to keep and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees, departments, officials and the general public.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Forklift; high lift; buffer machine; handsaw; broom and mop; telephone; power tools such as skill saw and drills; hand tools such as open-end wrenches, sockets sets, pipe wrenches, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work environment is normally located inside an air-conditioned office, although at times the employee will be required to be in outside conditions for periods of time throughout the day where the employee may be exposed to extreme heat, cold, wet, windy or humid conditions. The employee is at times exposed to fumes or airborne particles and occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The storage area for collateral materials and displays is located upstairs where the employee may experience exposure to dusty and very loud noises. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet or very noisy depending on the events.
