Job Overview:

This position will work at the Main Lab (Corporate Lab) for Valley Medical and Wellness, located in Burnsville, MN. The day shift Technologist II is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the toxicology and molecular workflow to support and maintain timely and accurate testing.

Primary Responsibility:  

  • Perform Instrument maintenance on PCR, QuantStudio5’s, Kingfishers, and GeXPs as needed.
  • Process results from previous evening samples through the toxicology and molecular workflow including loading and queueing of the instruments.
  • Assist with molecular data interpretation, instrument troubleshooting and daily, weekly and monthly instrument preventative maintenance.

General Duties as needed:

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative Molecular data analysis.
  • Process patient results through (LIS) and final report updates while following defined procedures.
  • Perform and maintain assay quality control for PCR/RT-PCR, King fishers and Capillary Electrophoresis.
  • Create and submit monthly reports to Supervisors, Lab Manager, or Lab Director on QC reports and other department metrics as assigned.
  • Document corrective and preventative action in testing procedures.
  • Utilize knowledge, understanding, and proficiency in PCR/RT-PCR, capillary electrophoresis and other molecular analytical testing methods to perform root cause analysis and instrument troubleshooting.
  • Perform specimen receiving actions in the LIS and organize samples based upon testing workflows.
  • Clean glassware and laboratory workspace.
  • Manage Laboratory Inventory: conduct inventory, initiate orders, receive supplies, and rotate stock appropriately for cost effective use.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Recent (within the last 2 years) experience performing fundamental PCR/RT-PCR, capillary electrophoresis (or similar) within Molecular Diagnostics testing scope.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and proficiency in the preparation, processing and analysis of biological samples using analytical testing, PCR/RT-PCR testing, toxicology and DNA/RNA extraction methods.
  • Knowledge of CLIA and CAP regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices including standard precautions and hazardous chemical handling.
  • Ability to maintain effective reporting procedures and control workflow.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and clients.
  • Adequate vision required for close, peripheral, depth perception capabilities, and the ability to adjust focus.

Required Education, Experience and Credentials:

  • Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university in chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology, or equivalent education and experience. 
  • ASCP accreditation is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially with Word and Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment to maintain test quality and efficiency.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Additional Position Details: (hours, locations, commute)

  • Day shift is from 9AM-5:30PM Tuesday through Saturday but may vary based upon business needs and growth of services.
  • Job location is the Corporate Lab located in Burnsville, MN
  • There is no commuting requirement for the position as a normal part of work responsibilities.
  • OPT and CPT are accepted.


Compensation:
• $23.00 an hour *The compensation range may represent the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, qualifications, education, internal equity and business needs.
