The Role


We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our team at our corporate office in Bryan, Texas. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate, efficient accounting operations while supporting the continued growth of American Lumber and the American Trade Group organization.


The Accounting Manager will support and help lead the monthly close process, oversee Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Costing functions, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of day-to-day accounting activities. This role is ideal for a collaborative leader who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a commitment to developing people and improving processes.

This position reports to the Controller.



What You’ll Do


Lead & Develop the Accounting Team

  • Provide leadership, training, and oversight for the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Costing functions.
  • Contribute to and reinforce a collaborative, positive, team-oriented culture.
  • Champion cross-training efforts that expand employee skill sets, support professional development, and create reliable backup coverage for key accounting functions.
  • Anticipate team needs, proactively address challenges, and support both individual and team success.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and partner with leadership to implement meaningful enhancements.


Manage Core Accounting Operations

  • Own key components of the monthly close process, including account reconciliations and preparation of journal entries.
  • Maintain and support accurate inventory accounting.
  • File and remit state sales tax.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and complete property tax renditions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of federal and state tax payments.
  • Support internal and external audit processes.
  • Complete bank and credit card reconciliations accurately and on time.
  • Identify, recommend, and oversee process improvements that increase accounting efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist with additional accounting and operational responsibilities as needed.



Who You Are


Accounting & Leadership Experience

  • Five or more years of hands-on accounting experience, including General Ledger responsibilities and significant ownership of the month-end close process.
  • Two or more years of experience leading or supervising accounting personnel and functions.
  • Three or more years managing General Ledger operations in manufacturing, distribution, or another inventory-intensive industry is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field preferred.



Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with ERP accounting systems required; NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to effectively lead, support, train, and develop team members.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Highly detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize responsibilities, follow through, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, pivot tables, and similar tools.
  • Experience creating Tableau dashboards is preferred.
