The Operations & Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and documentation of mechanical systems and equipment used in Freedom's products and solutions. Working closely with internal teams to support our business form a technical standpoint, this role transforms concepts into manufacturable designs while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, quality standards, and customer requirements.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Preparing and reviewing equipment specifications and bid packages, performing technical bid evaluations.
- Reviewing and approving drawings and provide fabrication and technical support.
- Review and interpret equipment drawings, P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, and technical specifications.
- Producing designs and specifications for mechanical systems and materials, contributing to technical selection, sizing, and evaluation of equipment.
- Consult with other engineering disciplines (e.g. electrical) on how best to integrate the mechanical design with their requirements.
- Select and specify appropriate mechanical components, materials, and equipment.
- Research new technologies, materials, and design approaches to improve product performance and manufacturability.
- Support procurement by preparing technical specifications, reviewing vendor quotations, and evaluating equipment submissions.
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and project teams to integrate complete product solutions.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, testing, commissioning, and product improvements.
- Prepare documentation to support manufacturing, installation, operation, and maintenance of products.
- Participate in design reviews, troubleshooting activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience in an industrial manufacturing or engineered equipment environment.
- Experience in renewable natural gas (RNG), compressed gas systems, process equipment, or a related industry is considered an asset.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, engineering drawing standards, and preparing manufacturing drawings and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Working knowledge of pressure vessels, piping systems, compressors, compressible gas systems, and applicable industry codes and standards.
- Strong mechanical design, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.

Education
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration is considered an asset.
