If that works for you, keep reading, because this isn't your typical software engineering role.
What You'll Do
We're looking for an engineer who likes solving hard problems, not just writing code.
You'll combine software engineering + quantitative analysis + financial logic + AI to build production systems supporting complex mortgage and financial operations.
You'll get to:
- Build production-grade software and expert systems
- Turn complex business knowledge and decision-making into automated system logic
- Work with large financial and mortgage servicing datasets
- Build SQL-based systems, ETL pipelines, APIs, and automated workflows
- Apply optimization, simulation, statistical modeling, and operations research
- Develop solutions involving cash flow, financial models, risk, reconciliation, and exception management
- Automate processes that currently require significant manual analysis
- Build systems designed for accuracy, validation, traceability, and auditability
- Work directly with developers, operations teams, financial professionals, and subject matter experts
- Help enhance and expand PMSI's proprietary Q™ technology platform
The role includes building expert systems that integrate rules-based logic, quantitative models, and decision-support algorithms into PMSI's technology platforms.
Yes, You'll Work With AI
We're looking for someone who knows how to use AI as an engineering tool without blindly trusting the output.
You'll have opportunities to:
- Use AI coding agents and AI-assisted development tools
- Apply AI to coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and modernization
- Build controlled AI/agentic workflows using APIs, data, business rules, and internal systems
- Validate, test, and refine AI-generated code
- Build appropriate controls, monitoring, and human oversight into AI-enabled solutions
What You Bring
Technical Skills
- Strong C#/.NET, C++, or comparable object-oriented development
- Strong SQL and/or MongoDB
- Experience with APIs, ETL/data pipelines, automated workflows, and data-intensive applications
- Experience using AI coding agents or AI-assisted development tools
- Knowledge of quantitative analysis, optimization, simulation, statistical modeling, or operations research
Just as Important
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong professional verbal and written communication
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
- Comfortable asking questions and working directly with subject matter experts
- Ability to translate business problems into technical solutions
- Strong documentation skills
- Detail-oriented and quality-focused
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-moving environment
Education & Experience
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Operations Research, Financial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- Typically 3–7 years of relevant experience in software development, quantitative analysis, or analytical technology development
- Demonstrated experience building production-grade systems
- Exceptional technical and analytical ability may allow some flexibility in years of experience
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in a quantitative field
- Structured finance or mortgage servicing experience
- Financial modeling experience
- Serverless ETL or AI/ML deployment experience
- Experience putting quantitative or analytical methods into real production software
You'll Probably Love This Role If...
- You're a software engineer at heart
- You genuinely enjoy difficult analytical problems
- You like figuring out why something works—not just how to code it
- You enjoy turning messy processes into structured systems
- You can move between code, data, math, business logic, and people
- You want to build things that actually make it into production
- When someone says, "It's complicated—you just have to know how it works," your reaction is: "Okay...how do we teach the system to know that?"
That combination of software engineering, quantitative problem-solving, knowledge engineering, systems thinking, and practical innovation reflects the success profile for this position.
Ready for a Challenge?
If you're looking for a fully remote development job, this probably isn't the right fit.
But if you want to be in the room, solving difficult problems with a team, building new technology, experimenting with AI, and seeing your work make an impact, we'd like to hear from you.
