About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Safety Manager to provide regional leadership for RNGD's safety and loss-control programs. Based at RNGD Headquarters in New Orleans, this role supports active commercial and civil construction projects throughout the Southeast and partners closely with operations, project leadership, field supervision, and trade partners. The Senior Safety Manager leads and coaches safety professionals, helps integrate risk controls into preconstruction and project execution, oversees high-hazard work planning, strengthens training and compliance systems, and supports incident, claims, and corrective-action processes. The position requires regular field presence and travel to project sites as operational needs require.

Core Responsibilities

Safety Leadership and Regional Program Execution

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to Safety Managers, Safety Technicians, project teams, and field supervision.
  • Support the Loss Control Leader in executing departmental priorities, governance standards, reporting expectations, staffing coverage, and regional safety initiatives.
  • Promote Stop Work Authority and reinforce a visible, proactive safety culture in which hazards are addressed before work proceeds.
  • Represent RNGD professionally with clients, trade partners, insurers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.

Preconstruction, Planning, and High-Hazard Work

  • Partner with operations during preconstruction, project startup, major phase transitions, and high-risk activities so safety requirements are integrated into execution plans.
  • Develop, review, and maintain project-specific safety plans, emergency action plans, Job Hazard Analyses, risk assessments, permits, and high-hazard work procedures.
  • Provide technical oversight for fall protection, excavation, confined space, demolition, electrical safety, cranes and rigging, mobile equipment, environmental controls, and other high-risk construction activities.
  • Confirm that project teams and trade partners understand required controls, responsibilities, and escalation procedures before work begins.

Field Assurance and Risk Mitigation

  • Conduct documented job-site reviews and field observations to verify compliance, identify risk, recognize strong performance, and drive timely corrective action.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to resolve deficiencies, assign accountable owners, establish completion dates, and verify corrective-action closure and effectiveness.
  • Review subcontractor safety qualifications, plans, documentation, and field performance; communicate deficiencies and verify corrective action.
  • Apply OSHA 1926, OSHA 1910, company requirements, and applicable state and local regulations consistently across assigned operations.

Incident Investigation, Claims, and Documentation

  • Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations using fact-based methods to identify root and contributing causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate the timely preservation of photographs, statements, records, and other documentation required for accurate and defensible incident and loss reporting.
  • Partner with operations, risk, and leadership to assign corrective actions, communicate lessons learned, and confirm sustainable implementation.
  • Maintain organized, complete, confidential, and audit-ready safety records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.

Training, Coaching, and Safety Capability

  • Develop, deliver, and track safety training for employees, supervisors, project leaders, safety staff, and subcontractors, including new-hire, task-specific, refresher, and leadership training.
  • Coach field leaders on hazard recognition, pre-task planning, effective safety conversations, accountability, and proactive intervention.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through field observations, knowledge checks, performance trends, and follow-up coaching.
  • Promote consistent expectations and share best practices across projects and regional teams.

Performance Analytics and Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor leading and lagging indicators, identify trends, and prepare clear reports and recommendations for Safety and Operations leadership.
  • Support consistent use of Procore safety tools, including inspections, observations, daily logs, weekly photos, JHAs, safety meetings, permits, and corrective-action tracking.
  • Use data, field feedback, and lessons learned to improve safety processes, reduce operational risk, and strengthen organizational performance.
  • Perform other safety, risk, training, and operational support duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of progressive safety management experience in commercial and/or civil construction; multi-project or regional leadership experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA 1926 and OSHA 1910 standards, as well as applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience developing project safety plans, conducting risk assessments, supporting high-hazard work, and leading incident investigations.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver HSE training and coach employees, field supervision, project leaders, and safety professionals.
  • Preferred certifications include CHST, CSHO, COSS/COSM, NCCER, OSHA 500, and/or OSHA 510; equivalent advanced safety credentials are valued.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organization, judgment, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
