Linux Systems Engineer

CCBill is an online payment services provider used by more than 30,000 websites globally that supports the needs of both new and established businesses in the ecommerce and online space. CCBill has been offering industry-leading solutions since 1998.

The primary objective of the Linux Systems Engineer role is to support and improve our infrastructure by ensuring system reliability, security, scalability, and operational efficiency. The role requires a strong technical foundation in Linux systems administration, automation, troubleshooting, and infrastructure engineering, with an increasing focus on DevOps and SRE practices. The Systems Engineer will work with development, operations, security, and other stakeholders to design and implement reliable technical solutions.

Working hours: Monday-Friday, US shift.

Key Job Requirements: 

• Perform system maintenance, patching, troubleshooting, and incident response to ensure infrastructure stability, performance, and reliability. Identify recurring operational issues and improve the processes and tooling used to address them.
• Design IAM workflows and contribute to integrations between infrastructure, authentication, authorization, and security systems. Apply Linux security best practices, hardening standards, and compliance requirements.
• Build scalable infrastructure stacks and improve high availability, resilience, and recovery capabilities.
• Improve SRE practices, incident response, and operational processes. Introduce or improve tooling for incident management, troubleshooting, and operational visibility.
• Lead medium-scope infrastructure projects involving multiple teams, from technical planning and design through implementation.
• Research, test, and implement technologies that improve infrastructure resilience, efficiency, maintainability, and reliability.
• Provide technical guidance to other engineers, contribute to documentation and standards, and communicate technical concepts effectively across teams.
• Analyze infrastructure performance, identify opportunities for optimization, and support security and compliance audits.
• Improve CI/CD workflows and manage Kubernetes deployments and supporting infrastructure in collaboration with development and operations teams.
• Define alerting standards, improve monitoring and observability, and develop custom Prometheus exporters or other integrations where required.
• Design automation workflows and develop or refactor infrastructure automation using Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, scripting, etc. Establish and enforce consistent automation standards.

Key Skills and Qualifications: 

• 4+ years of experience managing enterprise Linux environments.
• 2+ years of experience with configuration management or infrastructure automation tools such as Puppet or Ansible.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Strong Linux administration, troubleshooting, and system engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing, or refactoring automation using Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages and REST APIs.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with web servers and application servers such as Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, or similar.
• Experience administering MySQL, PostgreSQL, or other SQL databases in production environments.
• Understanding of Linux security and hardening best practices, including SELinux, TLS certificates, cryptographic ciphers, and compliance standards.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, including alerting and metrics-based troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with IAM concepts and infrastructure integrations with authentication and authorization systems.
• Experience with source control, CI/CD pipelines, containers, and Kubernetes deployments.
• Familiarity with virtualization, networking, and infrastructure as code. Experience with Terraform or Proxmox is beneficial.
