Sample Supports’ is seeking a dependable and encouraging Job/Career Coach to help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities develop vocational skills, obtain meaningful employment, and succeed in community workplaces.

Job Coaches typically work one-on-one or with small groups at community job sites. You will provide hands-on instruction, supervision, advocacy, and individualized support while helping each person build confidence and independence.

Although Supported Employment is the primary focus, this position is part of our combined employment and day-services team. Employees must also be willing to provide Day Program coverage based on individual, staffing, and program needs.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide individualized job coaching at community workplaces
  • Teach job duties, workplace routines, time management, communication, and professional behavior
  • Help individuals understand and meet employer expectations
  • Support individuals in building confidence, independence, and long-term employment stability
  • Provide on-site training, supervision, advocacy, and problem-solving
  • Communicate regularly with individuals, workplace supervisors, families, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Identify barriers to employment and help develop practical support strategies
  • Follow each individual’s service plan, employment goals, behavior plan, supervision requirements, and safety protocols
  • Complete daily service notes, employment tracking, progress updates, and billing documentation within required timelines
  • Communicate concerns, changes, incidents, and employment progress to the appropriate team members
  • Provide transportation to job sites, community activities, and other authorized services
  • Use trained crisis-prevention, de-escalation, and NVCI techniques when needed
  • Report suspected mistreatment, abuse, neglect, or exploitation as a mandatory reporter
  • Supporting individuals during group activities and community outings
  • Providing supervision during program hours and transitions
  • Leading recreational, volunteer, educational, or skill-building activities
  • Teaching communication, social, community-safety, and independent living skills
  • Supporting individuals with behavioral, personal care, mobility, or other needs within the employee’s training
  • Providing transportation and maintaining required supervision in community settings
  • Following individual service plans, behavior plans, and program protocols

Flexibility between Supported Employment and Day Program services is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old due to driving responsibilities
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • Willingness to transport individuals receiving services in a personal or agency vehicle as assigned
  • Ability to meet required motor vehicle record and insurance standards
  • Ability to work independently in community and workplace settings
  • Strong communication, patience, reliability, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to complete accurate electronic documentation on time
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during behavioral escalations or emergencies
  • Ability to work with individuals who may display unpredictable, aggressive, or high-risk behaviors
  • Willingness and ability to perform trained NVCI physical interventions when necessary to maintain safety
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of employment and Day Program assignments
  • Ability to pass required criminal background and protection-services checks

Previous experience in disability services, employment support, education, behavioral health, or human services is helpful but not required. Sample Supports provides comprehensive training and ongoing support.
