Data Collection Driver

Richmond, VirginiaContractPosted Sep 9, 2026

Position Summary

We are seeking dependable, safety-focused drivers to support a nationwide mapping and image-collection project. Drivers will operate small vans equipped with mounted camera systems that capture images of public streets, landmarks, points of interest, and surrounding areas. The collected images will help improve one of the world’s most widely used online mapping platforms.

Drivers will follow assigned routes through public streets, including urban, rural, and occasionally steep or hilly areas. Some routes may need to be driven more than once because of weather, visibility, traffic, or image-quality requirements.

This is a travel-intensive position with a project schedule of approximately 25 days working followed by 10 days off. Candidates must be comfortable traveling for extended periods and working independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a camera-equipped company vehicle.
  • Follow assigned routes, schedules, and project instructions.
  • Capture high-quality street-level images and geographic data.
  • Revisit designated areas when weather or image quality requires it.
  • Perform basic vehicle inspections and promptly report concerns.
  • Communicate regularly with project leaders regarding routes, progress, delays, and vehicle issues.
  • Protect company vehicles, camera equipment, computers, and collected data.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete assigned routes on schedule.
  • Follow all traffic laws, company policies, and safety procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • At least one to two years of licensed driving experience.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to pass a background check and motor vehicle record check.
  • Safe driving record and strong knowledge of traffic laws.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for approximately 25 consecutive workdays.
  • Comfortable driving for extended periods and in different road, traffic, terrain, and weather conditions.
  • Reliable, responsible, punctual, and safety-conscious.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to follow specific routes and instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle operation and routine vehicle care.
  • Comfortable using GPS, navigation systems, smartphones, and basic computer equipment.
