About Build AI

Build AI is the data hyperscaler for Physical AI. We co-design hardware, collection, infrastructure, and research to scale the in-the-wild physical labor dataset by orders of magnitude. We learn from humans doing the real job, in real environments. Inflecting revenue, backed by top-tier investors and staffed by leading engineers, Build is becoming the bottleneck to solving physical labor.

Job Summary

We’re hiring Data Compliance so the scaling team can collect as hard as possible without being the ones who have to think about legal and consent. You write the documents, you make collection, storage, and use legal and consented, and you put those controls in the workflow. Ops should not pause a factory because the paperwork is not done.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain consent, contractor/worker terms, privacy notices, retention, and cross-border transfer docs for in-the-wild collection

  • Put privacy-by-design into the collection path: consent capture, data minimization, retention/deletion, and access — not a PDF no one reads

  • Unblock scaling: make the aggressive collection strategy legal, including new countries and new setups, before the team shows up

  • Work with ops, marketplace, and software so consent and legality are in the product workflow

  • Handle trade and cross-border issues for collection devices and data (US / China / new countries), including what can move and what cannot

  • Make sure what we are actually doing matches the documents; close gaps when it does not

You may be a good fit if you have (Must-have qualifications)

  • You’ve done privacy, employment/contractor, or data-collection compliance in a real operating company, not only policy theory

  • You can write the docs and also make them true in the field

  • You treat legal as an enabler of scale, not a brake

  • Fine with in-the-wild physical labor collection and a company moving fast across countries

Strong candidates may also have experience with (Nice-to-have qualifications)

  • Cross-border data (US / China / new countries) and/or trade/export familiarity for hardware and datasets

  • Employment or contractor law in physical workplaces

  • You have written consent flows that operators actually used

  • Familiarity with retention/deletion, data minimization, or privacy-by-design in a product

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision packages with generous premium coverage

  • $500 per month credit for waiving medical benefits

  • Housing subsidy of $2k per month for those living within walking distance of the office

  • Relocation support for those moving to San Francisco (Financial District) or Shenzhen (Nanshan)

  • Various wellness benefits covering fitness, mental health, and more

  • Daily lunch and dinner in our office

  • Unlimited compute budget subject to ROI justification

  • Travel

How we're different

Build believes in the Bitter Lesson. We are betting early on learning from real human work at massive scale, and that the economies of scale of collection beat extra sensors and extra fidelity. Our addressable market is all physical labor, unlike many of our competitors.

We are a fully in-person team in San Francisco (Financial District) and Shenzhen (Nanshan), and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both and work across disciplines as needed.

Build AI is an equal opportunity employer. We review every application. If you do not meet every bullet, still apply. Questions: research@build.ai
