Solutions Engineering Intern

Internship / Co-op | Warehouse Automation & Robotics

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and technically curious Solutions Engineering Intern to join our Solutions team. This role is ideal for engineering student who enjoys combining data analysis, engineering design, automation, and problem solving to develop real-world solutions.

The intern will work alongside Solutions Engineers on warehouse automation and robotics projects. Early in the internship, the focus will be on data analysis, CAD layout development, solution modifications, and developing practical AI-enabled tools. As the intern gains experience, we expect them to take increasing ownership and eventually lead multiple projects or workstreams with guidance from senior team members.

What You'll Do

Data Analysis & Solution Design

  • Analyze customer operational data using Excel, Power BI, Python, or similar tools.
  • Evaluate order profiles, SKU characteristics, inventory, throughput, and operational requirements.
  • Develop calculations and models to support equipment sizing, capacity planning, and solution design.
  • Using Geekplus inhouse simulation platform to generate multiple scenarios to run sensitivity models on the solutions performance.
  • Translate data into clear engineering recommendations.

CAD & Layout Development

  • Create and modify warehouse automation layouts using AutoCAD.
  • Support the development of conceptual and detailed layouts for robotic and material handling systems.
  • Incorporate feedback from customers, partners, and internal engineering teams into design revisions.
  • Help maintain organized and accurate drawing packages throughout the design process.

AI & Engineering Tools

  • Identify repetitive engineering activities that can be automated or improved.
  • Develop small AI-enabled applications, scripts, calculators, or workflow tools to improve the productivity of the Solutions team.
  • Explore technologies such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Python, and generative AI where appropriate.
  • Document tools so that other engineers can easily understand and use them.

Project Ownership & Leadership

  • Participate in customer and internal solution-development meetings.
  • Coordinate with Solutions Engineering, Sales, Project Management, Product, and other technical teams.
  • Track technical questions, assumptions, deliverables, and action items.
  • Present analysis and design recommendations to the broader team.
  • As experience develops, take ownership of one or two smaller projects or defined project workstreams, including coordinating deliverables and communicating project status.

What We're Looking For

Required / Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Engineering Science, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and spreadsheets.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Basic experience with AutoCAD or other 2D/3D CAD software.
  • Interest in AI, automation, or application development.
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly.
  • Comfortable learning new technologies and working on open-ended engineering problems.
  • Able to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance.

Nice to Have

Experience with one or more of the following would be an advantage:

  • Python
  • Power BI
  • AutoCAD
  • Power Apps / Power Automate
  • Microsoft Copilot or generative AI tools
  • SQL or database analysis
  • Warehouse, logistics, supply chain, robotics, or material handling systems
  • Previous engineering design or project-based coursework

What You'll Gain

This internship is intended to provide considerably more than supporting engineering tasks. By the end of the term, a successful intern should have experience with:

  • Analyzing real customer operational data.
  • Developing warehouse automation concepts and CAD layouts.
  • Understanding how engineering concepts progress from customer requirements to proposed solutions.
  • Building AI and automation tools used by an engineering team.
  • Presenting technical work to engineers and business stakeholders.
  • Managing deliverables, priorities, and project communications.
  • Taking ownership of a small project from requirements through solution development and presentation.
