Position Overview

Created Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Range Safety & Flight Termination Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures Engineering Directorate under the TEAMS Next MDS Engineering program.


In this role, you will provide critical engineering expertise for flight termination systems (FTS) used across launch and reentry vehicles. You will support flight test activities, oversee FTS requirements and development, evaluate system performance, and ensure compliance with applicable range safety standards.


The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in flight termination systems, ordnance systems, and range safety engineering, along with the technical judgment and communication skills necessary to support complex missile defense programs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Range Safety subject matter expert on behalf of the Targets Program Office during flight tests, Range Safety Working Groups, and flight termination testing.
  • Provide oversight of requirements development, allocation, and verification for target system flight termination products, including autonomous flight termination systems.
  • Conduct technical surveillance of FTS hardware and software throughout development, qualification, acceptance, integration, and final checkout.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting system status, analytical findings, and formal engineering recommendations.
  • Represent government stakeholder interests in technical working groups, customer forums, and formal design reviews.


Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Master's degree in a STEM discipline.
  • Minimum of 12 years of related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in flight termination systems and ordnance systems.
  • Proficiency with flight safety analysis products and applicable Range Commanders Council standards, including:
    • RCC-319: Flight Termination Commonality Standard
    • RCC-324: Range Safety Tracking Systems Commonality Standard
  • Working knowledge of range tracking architectures and technologies, including GPS, Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), and C-band tracking.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports and deliver briefings to government and industry stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to travel in support of flight test activities and mission deployments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with Autonomous Flight Termination Systems (AFTS).
  • Hands-on experience supporting flight test operations.
  • Technical experience with RF systems, antennas, batteries, and ordnance devices.
  • Ten or more years of experience in the defense and aerospace industries.
