Financial Analyst

JOB DESCRIPTION 

BERK Consulting is looking for an analyst with 2-4 years of relevant work experience in financial and/or economic analysis to contribute to impactful public policy and management projects that serve Washington communities.    

 

BERK’s Finance & Economics team serves public sector clients across Washington State to help plan, manage, and sustain their communities through objective fiscal and economic analysis that informs program development and service delivery. We help clients understand how underlying economic conditions and Washington state’s municipal finance environment contribute to their strategic challenges and opportunities, translating analysis into succinct policy options.  
 

ROLE OVERVIEW

In this role, you will support client-facing work, including technical reports and presentations. You will gather, clean, and analyze data, turning findings into clear insights. You will contribute to proposal development for new projects by conducting research and helping shape scopes and timelines. 

 
Typical project assignments vary and may include:  

• Financial forecast modeling

• Fund policy analysis 

• Cost of service studies 

• Fee policy studies

• Tax burden analysis

• Fiscal or economic impact studies

• Funding feasibility analysis

• Demographic analysis 

• Market analysis

• Public policy analysis 

• Research

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for candidates with a strong analytical foundation and an interest in public-sector work.

Candidates should bring:

• At least two years of relevant experience in finance, economics, public policy, or a related field 

• Experience with Excel-based financial, economic, and/or public policy analysis 

• Experience organizing and managing quantitative data analysis in a team setting 

• Experience managing multiple projects and priorities 

• Ability to understand and communicate complex technical information and concepts 

• Clear analytic, writing, and presentation skills 

 

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

The following qualifications are helpful but not required: 

• Experience in municipal finance or financial modeling for the public sector 

• Experience with performance measurement, survey design, or data analysis 

• Interest or experience in policy areas such as transportation, housing, parks and recreation, human services, or economic development 

• Prior consulting experience 

• Degree in finance, economics, public policy, or a related field

HYBRID WORK EXPECTATIONS

BERK uses a hybrid work model to help maintain a healthy work/life balance. This position is based in Seattle and encourages regular in-office attendance. During the first three months of employment, staff must be in the office at least three days per week to support onboarding and training. Thereafter, team members are encouraged but not required to be in-office two days a week.
