Job Description Summary:

The Sales Lead Associate is responsible for delivering an exceptional boutique-level customer experience while supporting the daily operations of the Gift Shop. This role assists with merchandising, inventory management, sales transactions, opening and closing procedures, and maintaining an organized, visually appealing store. The Sales Lead Associate also supports the training of new team members and works closely with management to ensure efficient operations and the highest standards of customer service.

Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing exceptional customer service. Deliver an elevated, boutique-level customer experience by warmly welcoming every patient, visitor, employee, and guest. Anticipate customer needs, provide knowledgeable product recommendations, resolve concerns professionally, and ensure every interaction reflects the Gift Shop's commitment to outstanding service.                                                                                            
  • Responsible for processing and displaying merchandise. Receive, inspect, and process incoming merchandise by accurately unpacking, counting, verifying shipments, pricing, labeling, and preparing products for the sales floor. Ensure all merchandise is presented according to merchandising standards and visual display guidelines.            
  • Create a welcoming environment. Greet and assist patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and hospital staff with professionalism, courtesy, compassion, and discretion. Foster a positive shopping experience that reflects the hospital's standards of excellence and hospitality.                                                                                            
  • Operate the Point of Sale (POS) System. Accurately and efficiently process sales transactions using the Point of Sale (POS) system, including credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, employee badge payroll deduction, gift cards, and other approved payment methods.           
  • Maintain Sales Floor Presentation. Ensure the Gift Shop remains clean, fully stocked, visually appealing, and easy to shop at all times. Maintain high merchandising standards by organizing displays, straightening merchandise, replenishing product, and identifying opportunities to improve product presentation and customer experience.                                 
  • Replenish Merchandise. Proactively monitor sales floor inventory and restock shelves, fixtures, and displays throughout the day to ensure merchandise availability and an attractive presentation. Rotate merchandise as appropriate and maintain product freshness and quality.    
  • Monitor inventory and support inventory management. Regularly monitor inventory levels and communicate low stock, fast-selling items, and replenishment needs to management. Assist with inventory control by performing periodic cycle counts, vendor inventory audits, and annual physical inventory while maintaining accurate inventory records.     
  • Maintain an organized stockroom. Keep the stockroom clean, organized, and efficient to promote productivity and inventory accuracy. Properly store merchandise, organize backstock by vendor or category, maintain clear labeling, and follow all safety and loss prevention procedures.    
  • Lead daily store operations. Serve as the lead team member responsible for opening and closing the Gift Shop, following established operational procedures including register setup and reconciliation, security protocols, store readiness, housekeeping, and end-of-day closing responsibilities. Exercise sound judgment when working independently and communicate operational issues to management as needed.                      
  • Support team development and leadership.Assist management in onboarding and training new Sales Associates on customer service standards, POS procedures, merchandising practices, inventory processes, and daily operations. Lead by example, foster a collaborative team environment, provide guidance and support during daily operations, and help ensure consistent adherence to Gift Shop policies and service standards.
  • Generate sales reports. Prepare and generate sales, transaction, and inventory reports as requested by management. Ensure reports are accurate, timely, and organized to support business analysis, inventory management, merchandising decisions, and daily Gift Shop operations.

  • Experience
    • Minimum of 1 yr as a sales person in a hospital gift shop or similar retail store, preferred.  Ability to work well with co-workers and volunteers.  Effective oral, written, and computational skills.
