Business Development Representative
Business Development Representative | Retirement Plan Consulting
Are you the person who is genuinely energized by a full call block and a calendar you filled yourself? Do you
want your work measured in meetings created rather than hours logged? Then read on.
About LoVasco
LoVasco's Retirement Plan Consulting Group serves as the outsourced Chief Retirement Officer (CRO) to mid-
sized employers. We help 401(k) and 403(b) plan sponsors manage their fiduciary duties and provide their
employees access to quality, unbiased financial guidance. We are an energetic, growing firm that values our
commitment to taking care of the people you care about.
Located in downtown Detroit, LoVasco hires team members with a shared passion for accountability, extreme
ownership, and an overall getting-things-done attitude. We've found this translates into a level of client service
and work environment unmatched by our competitors.
Job Summary
The Business Development Representative (BDR) has one job: create qualified first meetings for LoVasco's
Retirement Plan Consulting team. Our consultants are exceptional once they are in the room. This role exists to
get them in more rooms.
This is a dedicated prospecting seat. You will not carry a book of business or manage client accounts. You will
own the top of our funnel — building target lists, running high-volume outreach, opening doors, and handing
warm, well-briefed opportunities to our consultants.
Job Responsibilities
• Outbound Prospecting: Execute daily, disciplined outreach to plan sponsors and decision-makers (CFOs, HR
leaders, business owners) by phone, email, and LinkedIn.
• Target List Development: Build and maintain prioritized prospect lists in our CRM using plan data (Form
5500 filings, industry, plan size, recordkeeper, advisor of record) so outreach is aimed at the right
companies rather than a random sample.
• Appointment Setting: Secure first meetings for our retirement plan consultants and confirm those
meetings hold. This is the metric this role is judged on.
• Meeting Preparation: Prepare a short pre-meeting brief for the assigned consultant — who we are
meeting, what we know about their plan, and why they agreed to talk.
• Nurture and Follow-Up: Own the long-cycle follow-up. Most plan sponsors are not ready today; you own
the cadence that keeps LoVasco in front of them until their renewal or RFP window opens.
• Networking Channel: Represent LoVasco in the channels where our buyers gather — industry associations,
local business groups, and centers of influence such as CPAs, ERISA attorneys, and payroll partners.
• Pipeline Hygiene: Maintain accurate, current activity and pipeline data in Salesforce and Asana. If it did not
get logged, it did not happen.
How Success Is Measured
This role has clear, published numbers. In the first 12 months, we expect:
• A consistent weekly outreach volume — a minimum of 200 meaningful touches per week, including 40+ live
dial attempts per day during prospecting blocks
• 8–10 qualified first meetings set and held per month by the end of the ramp period
• A 90-day ramp to first meetings, and full productivity by month six
• Complete and accurate activity reporting, reviewed weekly in our sales meeting
About You
People who thrive in this position:
• Are undeterred by the phone — rejection is data, not discouragement
• Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and are driven to grow professionally and personally
• Are a connector of people — enjoy engaging with people and cultivating positive relationships
• Are competitive with themselves and want their numbers on the board
• Are naturally curious — interested in learning our clients’ businesses and the retirement industry
• Value effective communication — believe that words matter and take pride in written and verbal skills
• Are process-oriented, with knowledge of or willingness to learn the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS)
and David Allen’s Getting Things Done (GTD) principles to manage long-term goals and daily tasks in Asana,
our project management system
Education, Training, and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, marketing, finance, or a related field, or
commensurate work experience
• Two or more years of outbound prospecting, inside sales, business development, or appointment-setting
experience, ideally in a professional services, insurance, or financial services environment
• Demonstrated track record of hitting activity and meeting-set targets
• Comfort with CRM and sales enablement tools; experience with Salesforce is a plus
• Securities licensing is not required to start. Candidates interested in pursuing the Series 7 and 66 will be
supported.
Compensation
This role offers a base salary commensurate with experience, plus an incentive structure tied to qualified
meetings set and held and a share of revenue on business that originates from your outreach. The upside is
designed to reward the person who consistently fills the calendar.
Career Path
At LoVasco, we believe in investing in our employees and providing opportunities for job development and
career expansion. The BDR role is a legitimate entry point into a consulting career:
• Retirement Plan Consultant: BDRs who develop technical fluency and earn the required licensing can move
into a client-leading consultant role.
• Producing Account Manager: For those who want to both open doors and own relationships, the producing
account manager path combines business development with account leadership.
• Financial Wellness Advisor: For those drawn to advice and education delivery over prospecting
