WRS has an immediate opening for Asphalt Paving Operator. WRS is looking for hardworking, safety-minded people who bring hands-on experience in the trade to join our asphalt paving team. If you've spent seasons on a paving crew, know your way around the equipment, and take pride in quality work, we want to hear from you.

About WRS

WRS offers a wide range of services in a number of industries. Regardless of the position you’re applying for, our work is always centered on people, problem-solving, and integrity.

What do we mean by that? We do the right thing and get along well with others. Our team members are experts in their respective fields. We think outside the box, and we’re good at it. And we’ve been doing this for a long time: we’re proud to be our communities’ trusted problem-solvers since 1982.

Are You a Good Fit?

Our ideal candidate is innovative, relational, and honest.

If you live for those “aha!” moments, you thrive in team settings, and you hold yourself to a high standard of work and ethics – we have a feeling you’ll like it here.

Your Responsibilities

  • Confidently and safely operate a roller, screed, or paver with minimal supervision
  • Assist with job site setup, breakdown, and traffic control, and keeping the site clean, safe, and organized
  • Raking and shoveling asphalt, marking utilities and paving boundaries, applying tack coat, and using hand and power tools safely and efficiently
  • Acting as a spotter for trucks and moving equipment
  • Safely operating rollers (approximately 1-15 tons) through breakdown, intermediate, and finish passes — monitoring mat and mix temperatures and maintaining proper speed and direction to prevent segregation, displacement, and roller marks
  • Operating screed controls (e.g., Vogele, Carlson, and similar platforms), adjusting angle of attack, extension, crown, and vibratory settings to achieve the desired mat texture and density
  • Operating topside paver controls, guiding trucks, and coordinating paving speed with trucking flow
  • Monitoring the mat for defects — high/low points, valley lines, cross-slope — and tracking yield, depths, and production to keep operations on spec and efficient
  • Coordinating and communicating with the foreman, ground crew, and truck drivers to keep the operation running smoothly
  • Performing daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance (fueling, greasing, cleaning), and promptly reporting mechanical issues
  • Following all company safety protocols and working closely with the crew to protect company property and ensure quality workmanship

Your Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience on an asphalt paving crew, with demonstrated experience operating rollers, screeds, and/or pavers in a production paving environment
  • CDL Class A preferred
  • Working knowledge of paving equipment such as Vogele and Carlson platforms, including screed and roller controls, a plus
  • Proven ability to read plans and specifications, and to recognize and correct mat defects, grade, and cross-slope issues
  • Strong, demonstrated knowledge of safe operation practices around heavy equipment and live traffic
  • Physically capable of performing demanding manual labor outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment in the field, and help guide less experienced crew members

Your Benefits & Compensation

Pay: $30.00-$50.00 per hour, depending on experience, role assignment and equipment qualifications.

WRS also performs public works projects throughout the year. These projects are paid at the applicable prevailing wage rate for the trade and county up to $94.54 per hour, depending on the project and classification.

When we say that we love investing in our team, we mean it.
