The Analytical Accounting Officer is part of the Finance Team and reports directly to the Head of Finance.

 

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of the organisation's analytical accounting framework by maintaining the cost centre and project structure, ensuring the correct allocation and reconciliation of income and expenses, and supporting month-end and year-end closing activities. The role provides reliable financial information for management and project reporting, in compliance with internal policies, donor requirements, and accounting standards, while working closely with Business Controlling.

 

The position is particularly suited to professionals with strong accounting and financial closing experience who enjoy working with complex datasets, multi-dimensional accounting structures, and financial controls.

 

This will include the following tasks: 

 

  • Responsible for reviewing purchase requests from an accounting perspective, ensuring the correct allocation of costs to budget lines, projects, and cost centres before financial processing.
  • Ensure consistency between approved budgets, accounting records, and incurred costs, maintaining full traceability and audit readiness.
  • Work closely with Business Controlling and the Head of Finance to support the annual planning and forecasting processes, including budgeting and financial monitoring of internal projects.
  • Maintain analytical dimensions, cost centres, and reporting structures, including the analytical framework supporting the Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) and travel reporting tools.
  • Monitor and analyse project financial data, ensuring the accurate allocation and reporting of costs and revenues.
  • Liaise with Administration to support invoicing and collection processes.
  • Support stakeholders in understanding financial information and the application of analytical accounting principles.
  • Contribute to the quality, accuracy, and consistency of accounting reporting together with the Head of Finance.

The ideal person combines technical accounting expertise with the ability to communicate financial information clearly to different audiences. A collaborative team player who enjoys working in a dynamic environment and takes a proactive, hands-on approach to ensuring data quality, reporting accuracy, and continuous improvement.

 

Must-have: 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in analytical accounting, management accounting, project accounting, financial reporting, or a similar accounting-focused role.
  • Proven experience managing multiple cost centres, projects, or complex analytical accounting structures.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial close processes, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Ability to identify accounting issues, financial risks, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Experience working in complex organisations with multiple stakeholders, entities, projects, or international environments.
  • Experience using Power BI for financial reporting and dashboard development, while also possessing strong Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English (C1 level or above), both written and spoken.

 

Nice-to-have: 

 

  • Experience with EU-funded projects and grant accounting.
  • Familiarity with Oracle ERP or similar ERP systems.

Kindly note that this is a permanent and full-time position, and it is based in Barcelona, Spain

 

Possibility to work from home 2 days a week. 

 

No relocation expenses are granted.
