Specialist

Summary: The Specialist supports the Education Director in the delivery of educational programs and services that promote academic success, school attendance, and student well-being. This position provides direct student support, coordinates and oversees after-school and summer programming, and collaborates with schools, families, tribal departments, and community partners to enhance educational outcomes for Native American students.
Responsibilities:
Program & Department Support

• Assist the Education Director with day-to-day Education Department operations and program implementation.
• Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of education programs funded through public and private grants.
• Assist with community events, educational workshops, staff training, and department initiatives.
  

Student Academic Support

• Work closely with School staff and students.
• Monitor students’ academic progress, attendance, and behavior.
• Provide tutoring and academic support to Native American students.
• Identify student support needs and communicate concerns through the established chain of command.
• Provide support in identifying, coordinating, and accessing special education services and assessments as needed.

After-School, Summer & Enrichment Programs

• Coordinate and oversee After School, Summer Education, and Summer Foods Programs.
• Supervise and support students during educational, recreational, and enrichment activities, including field trips.
• Ensure student safety, appropriate behavior, and engagement during all program activities.

Records, Data & Compliance

• Ensure accurate attendance tracking, documentation, and required data reporting.
• Maintain confidential student records, including eligibility, attendance, and progress documentation, in compliance with confidentiality requirements.
• Assist with reporting requirements for grants and program monitoring.
• This position is a mandated reporter.

Library & Literacy Support

• Manage library resources, including inventory, circulation, and literacy programming.
• Support literacy activities and educational resource access for students and families.

Coordination & Transportation

• Coordinate with tribal departments, schools, and community partners to support student services.
• Transport students in designated tribal vehicles in accordance with Tribal policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of tribal communities, culture, and traditions.
• Knowledge of student development, academic support strategies, and youth enrichment programs.
• Understanding of confidentiality requirements and student recordkeeping practices.
• Ability to supervise and engage groups of children in structured educational and recreational activities.
• Ability to monitor academic progress and identify student support needs.
• Ability to coordinate multiple programs, tasks, and schedules effectively.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Skill in providing tutoring and instructional support.
• Basic computer skills, including data entry and use of standard office software.
• Ability to manage time effectively and work independently or as part of a team.

Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree in education, Human Services, Social Work, or a related field; bachelor’s degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
• One (1) year of experience working with children or youth in an educational, after-school, or community-based program.
• Experience providing academic support, tutoring, or student supervision.
• Valid Nevada driver’s license and ability to operate Tribal vehicles in accordance with policy.
• Ability to pass required background checks and pre-employment drug testing.
• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
• Experience working with Native American/Alaska Native students or communities preferred.
• Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
