Kaiwhakahaere Ā-rohe | Regional Manager

Permanent, fulltime, Tamaki Makarau, Auckland

  • Front-line senior leadership role
  • Support improving outcomes for our tamariki and rangatahi
  • Build meaningful connections with community

Aroturuki Tamariki | Independent Children’s Monitor provides oversight of the oranga tamariki system. We check that organisations supporting and working with tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people) in the oranga tamariki system are meeting their needs, delivering services effectively, and improving outcomes. We do this by listening to the experiences of those in the system and analysing data, to provide insights that will drive continuous improvement for tamariki and rangatahi – particularly tamariki and rangatahi Māori and tamariki and rangatahi with disabilities.

The Kaiwhakahaere Aroturuki – Regional Manager is a leadership role in the operations team.  In this role, you will lead a team of monitors who go into the community to talk with tamariki and rangatahi, whānau, family, professionals, caregivers and other people, to understand how those agencies responsible for providing services and supports to them, are doing just that.

As a leader you will influence team culture, development and direction, as well as have influence within the senior leadership group. You will also have an outward facing role in building trusting professional relationships with iwi, Māori and government and non-government partners in the community.  Understanding the context and intricacies of those relationships and the role of whakawhanaungatanga (establishing relationships) and manaakitanga (showing respect, generosity and care) in this work is essential.

We are looking for someone with:

  • experience in building and leading high-performance teams
  • natural empathy and good judgement
  • a genuine respect for cultural similarities and differences and appreciation of diversity
  • strategies to support a te ao Māori approach
  • knowledge and experience of working for a government agency
  • knowledge of child development, the child protection and youth justice system

Our values are Kia Māia – to be Courageous; Kia Pono, Kia Tika – to be Trustworthy; Manaaki – to be Respectful; and Kia Huritao – to be Reflective.  We are looking for people who share these values to join us.

We are supportive of flexible working arrangements.
