Elementary School Counselor/Social Worker

Hemlock Public School District is excited to welcome a dedicated Licensed School Counselor or School Social Worker to join our Huskie Pack at K.C. Ling Elementary and make a meaningful impact in the lives of our young learners.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Michigan School Counselor License/Certification or Michigan School Social Worker Approval
- Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree in School Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of social-emotional learning, behavioral interventions, and student support systems
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners
A successful candidate will be able to:
- Support the Whole Child:
Provide individual and small-group counseling services that promote students' social-emotional well-being, self-awareness, resilience, and academic success.
- Cultivate a Culture of Belonging and Growth:
Help foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment where all students feel valued, respected, and connected to their school community.
- Partner to Remove Barriers to Learning:
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and community agencies to identify and address factors that may impact student success, attendance, behavior, and overall well-being.
- Provide Early Intervention and Student Support:
Assist in identifying students in need of additional social-emotional, behavioral, or mental health supports and help develop effective intervention plans and resources.
- Strengthen Family and Community Connections:
Build trusting relationships with families and serve as a bridge between home, school, and community resources to support student growth and success.
- Collaborate with Student Support Teams:
Actively participate in MTSS, 504, Child Study, and other student support processes while helping implement strategies that promote positive outcomes for all learners.
- Promote Positive School Climate:
Support schoolwide initiatives focused on student wellness, character development, attendance, conflict resolution, and social-emotional learning.
Position Details
- Full-time, school-year position
- Salary starting at $48,000, based on qualifications and experience
- Comprehensive benefits package
- Position begins with the 2026–2027 school year
