Seeds Wilderness Way exists to bring hope, healing, and restoration to teens and families facing deep emotional, relational, and spiritual struggles. As a licensed Christian outdoor behavioral treatment program, Seeds uses wilderness experiences, Christ‑centered counseling, and relational discipleship to help teens discover identity, purpose, and renewed connection with God.

Volunteers support this mission by helping create safe, loving, spiritually grounded environments where students can encounter transformation.

What Seeds Does

• Supports teens facing anxiety, depression, identity struggles, family conflict, and crisis‑level behaviors.
• Leads 40‑day and 5-day wilderness expeditions designed for heart transformation, healing, and reconciliation.
• Provides preventative programs for parents, families, and youth leaders.
• Offers three years of aftercare and discipleship to help students continue growth at home.
• Integrates Christian counseling, experiential learning, peer support, prayer, and spiritual formation.

Requirements for Volunteers

• Some general and specific trainings required before start 
• Volunteers who may have direct contact with students are required to pass a background check and will have additional training. 
• All volunteers must be physically capable of completing their position’s workload. Workload intensity will vary. All volunteers are recommended to be able to lift and carry at least 25 pounds.

Incident & Radio Command Volunteer Role Summary

The Incident & Radio Command Volunteer helps maintain the communication and emergency-readiness systems that support Seeds Wilderness Way's backcountry teams.

This is a trusted volunteer role for someone with prior outdoor, wilderness, emergency-response, or communication experience who can remain calm, organized, and dependable when situations become stressful.

The volunteer supports the Operations & Logistics Director with daily communication with field staff, radio and satellite equipment, travel plans, and emergency-response preparation.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and organize radios, Garmin inReach devices, satellite phones, chargers, batteries, and related equipment.
• Inspect and test communication equipment regularly.
• Ensure communication equipment is charged, functional, labeled, and ready for deployment.
• Help prepare communication equipment for field teams and weekly restocks.
• Assist with monitoring and maintaining field communication systems.
• Support the Operations & Logistics Director during field incidents as directed.
• Assist with emergency communication and documentation.
• Maintain familiarity with field group locations, UTM coordinates, maps, GPS, and compass navigation.
• Participate in staff and volunteer training related to communication and emergency procedures.
• Help maintain emergency-readiness supplies and systems.
• Assist with other logistics duties when needed.
• Participate in Seeds prayer and devotional life when able. Pray over staff, students, and situations regularly. 
• Follow Seeds' safety, communication, confidentiality, and operational policies.

Desired Experience

• Prior outdoor, wilderness, emergency-response, or expedition experience required.
• Experience with handheld radios, satellite communication, Garmin inReach, or similar equipment preferred.
• Familiarity with maps, GPS, UTM coordinates, and compass navigation.
• Ability to remain calm and communicate clearly under pressure.
• Strong organizational and follow-through skills.
• Ability to work independently while remaining accountable to leadership.
• Commitment to Seeds Wilderness Way's mission and values.
• Able to pass a background check and complete state-required training with other Seeds staff.
